BACOLOD CITY, Philippines — Two Army soldiers were killed while four others were wounded in an encounter with New People’s Army (NPA) rebels in Sitio Tiyos, Barangay Quintin Remo in Moises Padilla, Negros Occidental on Wednesday.
Brig. Gen. Inocencio Pasaporte, 303rd Infantry Brigade commander, said the clash occurred when soldiers belonging to the 79th Infantry Battalion attacked a suspected hideout of the NPA guerrillas.
The wounded soldiers are now in stable condition in a hospital.
Maj. Gen. Benedict Arevalo, 3rd Infantry Division commander, said they are validating reports that the rebels detonated a landmine that caused injuries to the soldiers.
