The Shooto Champion will be returning to action against former ONE Strawweight World Champion Alex “Little Rock” Silva in the previously recorded ONE: FISTS OF FURY III, which airs from Singapore on Friday, March 19.
Adiwang certainly has some thoughts about Minowa’s new challenge.
“He’s smart by playing it safe and not wanting a rematch with me. He felt what I can bring to the table, and he experienced it firsthand. The smart move would be to avoid me,” Adiwang said.
“I think he’s scared to get inside the Circle with me again.”
Adiwang, who already rebounded with a second-round knockout victory over Namiki Kawahara last January, is still determined to get another shot at Minowa.
In fact, he still believes the Japanese star submitted to him in the first round when he got the kimura locked in. Though he still holds onto that belief, Minowa ultimately slipped out of it and edged out a close split-decision win.
There is nothing “Thunder Kid” can do now but to hope for a rematch, and he suspects that Minowa is trying to avoid that.
“I don’t think you can say ‘a win is a win.’ Not in this sport. He can’t enjoy that victory because a lot of fans don’t accept the outcome. It was a close split decision that could have gone either way, that many people thought I won. The only way to prove total victory is in a rematch,” Adiwang stated.
“In this sport, performances matter. That night, he got the victory, although it was a controversial one. He will always be haunted by the criticism that comes with it.”
Nonetheless, Adiwang wishes Minowa the best in his matchup with Silva and future fights. Meanwhile, the Team Lakay representative plans to build a dominant winning streak and hopes that will eventually lead to another meeting with his Japanese rival.
“Focus on higher-ranked fighters, because if you’re ever in the Circle with me again, you’re getting derailed,” Adiwang said.
“I’m sure me and him will meet each other again, as long as we both keep winning. That rematch is inevitable.”
In the meantime, catch ONE: FISTS OF FURY III on One Sports and One Sports+ at 8:30 p.m. Philippine Standard Time (PHT) on March 19. It will also simultaneously air live on the ONE Super App.
Also, TV5 will air an encore presentation of the event at 12 a.m. PHT on Sunday, March 21.
