“They promised to have these illegal deep wells removed, but did not say when,” Salvado Royeca, general manager of the Baguio Water District (BWD), said, referring to the NWRB.
Mayor Benjamin Magalong and Royeca met with NWRB executive director Sevillo David Jr. and other agency officials on Tuesday to discuss the matter, including the possibility of granting BWD regulatory powers over the city’s water sources and private deep wells.
The city is expected to experience acute water shortage this summer due to the dwindling yield from underground sources and insufficient rainfall.
The BWD adopted measures such as tapping more water sources and rotational supply schedule to ensure continuous supply until the rainy season.
The public has been urged to help conserve water at home and in offices.
“This water shortage is not just a possibility but is something inevitable and we all have to do our part to avoid this scarcity,” Magalong said.
