What you need to know about the Celtics

This past Friday, Boston wrapped up 2021 with a 123-108 victory over the Phoenix Suns. Center Robert Williams III was the offensive standout of the game for Boston, dropping a triple-double with 11 rebounds, 10 points, and 10 assists. Williams is listed as questionable heading into Sunday’s game with a toe injury, and should be considered a game-time decision. Otherwise, he is having his best season as a professional, and against the Magic earlier this season, he recorded 12 points, six rebounds and a block.

One thing the Celtics have been especially strong at this year is limiting opponents’ assists on scoring opportunities. Boston has allowed others to come away with just 21.8 assists per game this season, which is the second-lowest mark in the NBA.

What you need to know about the Magic

Orlando closed out 2021 with a pair of losses to the defending NBA champion Bucks. The most recent of which was a 136-118 loss on Thursday, where Wagner scored 20 points and his brother, center Moe Wagner added 19 points off the bench. Wendell Carter Jr. also had a nice showing in the losing effort, finishing with 14 points, 10 rebounds and five assists.

Orlando had one of its lowest scoring totals of the season the last time the Magic played Boston, which was a 92-79 home loss on Nov. 3. Orlando shot just 32 percent from the field in that game and 20 percent from beyond the 3-point line. Carter was tied with Cole Anthony for the team lead in points scored with 13, but Anthony (ankle) won’t be available for Orlando on Sunday. Anthony has missed six of Orlando’s last seven games, which has been problematic for the Magic, as he’s averaged 20 points per contest in the 24 games he’s played this season.
